This is a young children’s picture book for ages 2–6 years. Because one character is an older sibling, its appeal may be broader, especially since three generations are included.
Sometimes a trip to the park does not go as anticipated for children, parents, or grandparents. A simple outing changes as unexpected circumstances occur for the 3-year-old boy. While running to see a big blue statue of a manatee, he gets stuck in the mud and needs to be rescued by his grandmother. This "true story" took place as illustrated.
"The park looked strange this day. There were tents set up with different things inside each one."
"When they got off the swings, they walked on a path... James saw something different up ahead. He didn't know what the strange thing was! He pointed at it and shouted, "Look!"
"BOTH HIS FEET GOT STUCK IN THE GOOEY MUD!"
